A USPSA (United States Practical Shooting Association) match is where handgun and pistol caliber carbine (PCC) shooters gather to challenge their skills at a variety of courses of fire called stages. These stages of fire are predominantly “free-style” where the shooter solves the problem of shooting all the required targets in the fastest most efficient way. There typically are multiple paper targets, moving targets, reactive targets, penalty targets, partially covered targets, and steel targets. These are all engaged while safely navigating the timed course of fire. The scoring method is called “hit factor scoring” which balances both speed and accuracy.

There are eight distinct divisions in USPSA that you can participate in based on the type of firearm and equipment that you have. These matches are run under the current USPSA standard set of rules that are followed at all sanctioned USPSA matches.

The range we shoot at is considered a “cold” range. This means that all guns must be always unloaded and holstered (or in a bag or case). Guns are not to be removed from holsters, bags, or cases unless under the direction of a Range Officer at the beginning of a stage, or in a designated safety area. Guns must be empty— un-chambered and all magazines removed, with actions closed and hammers down, when holstered or cased. Gear up ONLY in the specially designated safe areas— nowhere else. Not even in your car.

No ammunition can be handled in a designated safe area or placed on a safe table. This will result in a disqualification due to a safety violation. Ammunition and magazines may be handled any place else on the range.

Do not arrive to the range with a loaded firearm.

Both members and non-members can shoot in Level I (local) USPSA matches. We'd suggest waiting until you’ve shot your first match to make sure it’s a sport you’ll want to continue with before joining. A 1-year membership is currently $25.00 per year and you can sign up on the USPSA.org website.

Absolutely you can! We welcome shooters of all skill levels. 

However, absolute beginners should take a class or work with a private instructor to get down basic gun handling and marksmanship skills first.

Here's a good rule - if you can shoot somewhat accurately, can draw safely from a holster, can reload your gun with spare magazines, and can move (walk or run) with your gun safely with your finger outside of the trigger guard, you probably have enough skill to do your first match.

Yes! Spectators with eye and ear protection are always welcome. We just ask that anyone who attends respects the safety rules of the range and the match and children MUST BE SUPERVISED AT ALL TIMES. If you have any questions about guests and spectators, please reach out to the match director.

Technically no - Maturity and the ability to operate the controls on the gun is the only limitation for participating in a USPSA match.
